I have just started reading this book. I am finding that it is full of things to really think deeply about. Very powerful whether I agree with the statements or not. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in a spiritual life and especially those living in power exchange relationships.

Great book.
A must for spiritual power exchange relationships. SlaveMaster and 7's words can now be read over and over.
The premier work on our way of life. The intimacy that Slave Master and his slave, slave 7, share together is timeless.
This remarkable book, written by two extraordinary men who have been practicing a Master/slave relationship for many years, presents a very different picture from the usual porn images of Masters as bullies and slaves as weak and exploited. Here we learn that slaves are not weak, but among the most extraordinary creatures on earth. Masters are not egomaniacs who exploit slaves, but must always help them develop into what they are meant to be. In developing a Master/slave relationship both are fulfilling some greater spiritual purpose embedded in the fabric of the universe.

The vision here is definitely spiritual. Like many spiritual travellers in other communities (I think of Lakota men who go on vision quests to find out how the Great Spirit—Wakan Tanka—wants them to serve) both Masters and slaves must follow some greater spiritual direction by looking into their hearts, minds, and souls. How? By getting rid of one’s petty egos that are developed by social pressures and desires. This is the universal message of many religious traditions, especially in those with intense spirituality rather than dogmatic pronouncements. In this view BDSM (Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and submission, and Sadomasochism) provides a ritual means to quash our egos in order to find a “deeper self” that will give us fulfillment and happiness.

Both SlaveMaster and slave 7 remind us continually that we cannot know exactly what the Universe/God/Shiva has in mind for us or even why some men are drawn to be slaves and others Masters. Just one example among many, this one by slave 7 “This slave is comfortable not knowing the unknowable. . . . It is enough to know that it is truly following its heart. . . . 7 KNOWS that it is happier than ever before, the world and life makes more sense than ever before, this individual is better off than ever before. . . .” (p. 172)
There are times when the authors’ presentations of their experiences as beliefs seem like a new “theology or psychology of the soul,” leading readers to wonder whether this is the only way to look at things. But readers should keep in mind the following reminder of SlaveMaster “I make no attempt to explain nor justify anything based on any theory or discipline. What I know, I know through experience or through My own unwavering obedience.” (p. 241). Then we will accept that all the seemingly propositional truths in the book are only attempts to explain a deeper Truth of something beyond words.

I strongly recommend this book, especially for those in the BDSM community who suspect that they are experiencing something deeper and more spiritual than the pleasure and sensation of BDSM play.
Really deep thoughts on the M/s power dynamic in this book, beyond what I wanted to know. However, if M/s is your choice, this book expands on the relationship and philosophy in a meaningful way.
